WCB is a non-auditioned wind band that is open to everyone!

Worsley Concert Band rehearses every Wednesday evening at the Wardley Community Centre from 20.00-21.30. We have no age limit, no ability limit, and are always happy to welcome new members.

We have a strict non-discrimination policy and encourage new members of any sex, race, sexual orientation, gender identity and physical ability level. We do ask that any children are accompanied by an adult at rehearsal, but the adult doesn’t have to join in unless they want to!

We appreciate taking the leap to join a new band can be daunting, whether you’ve moved to a new area or have picked up a new hobby as an adult. You’ll not be expected to play a solo in front of the band, and we’ll provide you with a “Band Buddy” if you’d like, so that you’re not stuck on your own!

If you’re not sure if WCB is for you, have a look at some of our “Common Concerns” below.

Common Concerns

What instruments can join?

Is there a minimum standard to join?

How much does it cost?

We accept all instruments from the wind band family. That includes all these instruments!

There is no minimum standard to join, but you will need to be able to read sheet music. If you find something too difficult in rehearsals, we’re always happy to create simpler parts for you!

Subs are £10 per month for Worsley Concert Band. For junior members, this is reduced to £5 per month.

What facilities are there at your rehearsal venue?

Does your rehearsal venue have on-site parking?

I have specific accessibility requirements. Can I join?

The community centre has on-site toilets, a disabled access toilet, is wheelchair accessible, and has a loop line. There’s also a small kitchen for teas and coffees!

There is a small on-site car park that can accomodate 12 cars, as well as a bicycle rack. There is additional on-road parking around the venue, and the nearest train station is Moorside station, which is a 10 minute walk.

Definitely! If you have any particular accessibility requirements or if there is anything else we can do to help make rehearsals a better experience for you, please let us know.

Do you have space for more clarinets or flutes?

I want to try a new instrument. Can I borrow one from you?

Do you accept treble clef trombones, Eb horns and Eb basses?

Yes, we do. Our clarinet section is our largest section currently, but don’t let that put you off! We’re always happy to have new members.

If we’ve got it, you can borrow it! We can also help to source instruments for hire. Get in touch and let us know which instrument you’d like to try!

Absolutely. We can provide alternative parts to our pieces so you can still join in the fun!

What kind of music do you play?

What kind of committment level do you expect?

How often do you perform?

A little bit of everything! Classical, pop, film, military, original wind band repertoire – have a look at our current repertoire and see!

We won’t be upset if you miss a week here and there, but to get the best experience, try to make as many rehearsals and concerts as possible.

The band has two fixed engagements a year; our Christmas concert and our Summer concert, and we try to perform as often as we can throughout the year.

What do I need to bring to rehearsals?

Can I try a rehearsal before I join?

My question hasn’t been answered here.

Just yourself, a music stand and an instrument – unless you’re borrowing an instrument from us! We provide sheet music and folders for you.

Of course! Just like with shoes, you need to know we’re the right fit for you. And if we’re not, we won’t be offended, but we might ask for feedback to see if we can improve.

No problem! Just get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you have.
