MEET THE BAND

Peter has been Musical Director for Worsley Concert Band since 2023 and since that time has been working tirelessly with the band to both widen its repertoire and build on established high standards.

Peter’s Bio

Following study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Manchester College of Music under the guidance of Professors Thea King and Sydney Fell, Peter pursued a professional career as a clarinettist, saxophonist, educator, administrator and musical director, including several seasons with the orchestra of D’Oyly Carte Opera Company. 

As well as maintaining his many interests in live performance Peter has held numerous roles within the world of music education and has received a number of awards for his contribution to music and the community including a “life-time achievement award” from the Music Teacher magazine, a “Paul Harris Award” from Rotary and an “Honorary Fellowship” of Northampton University.

As a conductor he has directed many adult and student ensembles throughout the UK and Europe from symphony orchestras, massed choirs, through to big bands and chamber ensembles, commissioning and premiering many new works and achieving acclaim with award winning performances at the UK’s National Festival of Music for Youth and Neerpelt International Music Festival. He has conducted numerous celebratory performances in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall in London, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Nuremburg Conservatoire and the Derngate Theatre in Northampton. He has held positions as director for several music schools and organisations in the UK and was until recently Chief Executive of Northamptonshire’s Music and Performing Arts Trust and Honorary Treasurer for the Incorporated Society of Musicians.
